Tensions escalated in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas on Sunday night, with violent clashes between Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters outside the Jagaddal police station. The violence and tension in this constituency came just hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled high-profile public rally on Monday. The violence was sparked by the tearing of political flags and posters put up for the Prime Minister’s visit.

BJP workers accused TMC supporters of desecrating their campaign material near the Jagaddal area. The situation escalated when supporters of both parties gathered in front of the Jagaddal police station. Arguments, stone-throwing, and scuffles broke out between the two sides. Local police struggled to control the situation.

The conflict escalated to the point where the home of BJP MLA Pawan Singh was bombed. Pawan Singh is contesting the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections from the Bhatpara (General) constituency. Some people threw crude bombs at the MLA’s home, causing panic in the neighborhood and extensive property damage. At least three people were injured in the blast. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
