During a vehicle checking operation near Tekanpur, Dabra City Police in Madhya Pradesh have recovered about ₹3.7 lakh worth of 37kg of ganja and arrested two drug smugglers.
The contraband was in an Alto car registered in Chhattisgarh (CG-04 KQ6378), police said. The investigators suspect that the ganja is from Odisha and is being smuggled into Gwalior to be distributed among people for consumption.
Arrested accused Gurpal Singh Johal of Rahi village and Mulayam Singh Rawat of Dongarpur village have been identified. The police claimed that Mulayam Singh was working from Gwalior and was also in the process of distributing ganja to various parts of Gwalior city.
Dabra police station in-charge Sanjay Sharma said that upon receipt of specific information regarding the movement of the vehicle, the action was taken. They launched instantaneously a checking procedure which resulted in the interception and search of the car and the loading of the narcotic.
Police registered a case under the relevant provision of the NDPS Act and started asking some questions to the accused in this case to find out other members of the alleged gang.
Any effort to trace the source of the consignment, identify who the consignment was earmarked for and whether there was any further connection with the accused and a larger drug network operating across the nation, is the focus of the investigation, officials said.
The seizure comes as a follow-up to the ongoing anti-narcotics drive of the district police to curb the illegal trade of narcotic substances in the area.
