Following the death of a young man after being electrocuted in the controversial Nisarg Water Park at Barela, a major crackdown has been launched. As police investigations reportedly reveal serious negligence and safety lapses within the water park, the resort has now arrested its owner, Vivek Tripathi, who is also a former tehsildar.
The victim’s friends gave statements that gave shocking details about the incident, police officials said. The man “died immediately after his electrocution near the slide area after emergency response from the resort management was not received immediately,” they said.
After the incident, district officials closed the water park and carried out a comprehensive inquiry and investigation by the revenue department, police, electricity department, and food safety officials. Inside the premises, authorities reportedly found several irregularities and violations in the safety measures and infrastructure during the joint investigation.
The incident has brought into question the safety standards of amusement and water parks in this area and has led to a flurry of criticism of the administration’s oversight of the resort. But, now with increased public pressure, officials have gone ahead and requested all the documents pertaining to the approvals of the resort construction, land diversion, and operational licenses from Vivek Tripathi.
Cops are also looking into reports of ‘illegal building work’ inside the premises, sources said. If more violations are discovered in the course of the investigation, officials have indicated there will be further penalties, such as demolition or license revocation.
The incident has been a matter of outrage in Madhya Pradesh, where the need for accountability and better safety measures in public recreational areas is being emphasized.
