Parliament Monsoon Session Day 2: ‘Entertainment industry image being tarnished’, says Jaya Bachchan; Rajnath to speak about India-China row

New Delhi:  The death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput and Rhea Chakraborty’s alleged link to drug cartel seems to have reached the Rajya Sabha on day two of the Monsoon Session. Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan spoke about an alleged ‘conspiracy to defame the film industry’ on the second day of the Monsoon Session in Parliament. She had given a Zero Hour notice in Rajya Sabha, which can be raised for critical matters with the approval of the Speaker.

“People in the entertainment industry are being flogged by social media. People who made their names in the industry have called it a gutter. I completely disagree. I hope that the government tells such people not to use this kind of language,” Jaya said on Tuesday, according to media reports.

“Just because there are some people, you can’t tarnish the image of the entire industry. I am ashamed that yesterday one of our members in Lok Sabha, who is from the film industry, spoke against it. It is a shame,” she added, referring to comments made by BJP MP Ravi Kishan about the “alleged conspiracy of Pakistan and Nepal, hatched to destroy the country’s youth”  on Monday.

Meanwhile, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to make a statement in the Parliament on the ongoing standoff between India and China along the Line of Actual in eastern Ladakh. Singh could address at around around 3 pm today when the proceedings in the Lok Sabha will commence.

The Parliament is in session and will continue for the next 18 days. 47 items have been identified for being taken up during the Monsoon Session 2020, which includes 45 Bills and two financial items.
