The probe into the alleged murder of Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal has taken a new shape and turn since police officials began questioning a youth of Beed district in Maharashtra over association with the accused and main accused people have not taken the polygraph examination.
Ketan Agarwal was killed from the cliff during the trek visit to Lohagad Fort on June 18. Police said the case had been filed as an accident then turned into a murder case as his fiancée Siya Goyal and her allegedly boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary were held accused of plotting his death.
Numerous reasons suggest that the two shared their alleged murder plan with a classmate of Chetan from Beed and asked him to join them on the one-day hike. The youth refused and in turn told the police that they did not wish to perform the act, police said.
Officials are looking at calls made to and from him; electronic chats, etc., to figure out how much he was involved with, if at all, the youth.
Meanwhile, the prosecution had asked for a further extension of police custody, which was declined by the court in Pune, where Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary were remanded in custody till 14 days of judicial custody.
The court also rejected the police plea for polygraph tests because the accused youths refused them, which fell under the rules to prohibit such tests.
Police said the investigations into Ketan Agarwal’s death were at “crucial” stage with continued efforts and analysis of digital evidence to work out the sequence of events and create a timeline of what happened in his death.
