During a Lok Sabha debate on the proposed anti-paper leak amendment bill, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav fired hard guns at the Centre in questioning the government’s approach on examination paper leaks and the current protests demanding the revocation of the NEET-UG antisocial act on the issue of paper leak.
During this time, the former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had stepped down protesting after the government was accused of suppressing the popular movement. Speaking about this matter, Yadav joked with the BJP government by saying it had ousted “Pradhan” for the sake of “Pradhan Mantri”.
Reacting to the students’ agitation, Akhilesh Yadav had said that the government only responds when? that protest had compelled the Centre that it had to do something now.
The SP chief also raised doubt about the working of the government’s anti-paper leak law, commenting on how there had been nearly 20 examination paper leaks within the regime of the BJP. He said it couldn’t be solved with just a change in the law unless accountability was put to rights.
In the debate, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju made mention of the emergency and lambasted the Opposition. Tracking the utterances, Yadav’s counsel said that while he didn’t have grounds to believe he had seen what was happening during the Emergency, “the attitude of the government towards the protests of the students in Delhi in recent days is talking of tear gas and lathi charges upon the protesters.
The amendment bill against the paper leak that is to be presented before the Lok Sabha has stricter punishment for people involved in the leakage of examination papers, which can include tickets from up to 10 years and a fine of up to ₹50 lakh.
The Opposition has been asking the government about the alleged police crackdown in the protests led by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the NEET-UG paper leakage case.
