Christopher Nolan’s Greek adaptation continued its strong run at the Indian box office over its opening weekend. In just three days the epic mythology has crossed the Rs 70 crore gross mark emerging as the filmmaker’s biggest opener in the country. The original English-language version remains the biggest contributor to the film’s India business. While Hindi, Tamil and Telugu follow.
According to a trade tracker, The Odyssey earned an estimated Rs 21.90 crore net on Sunday (Day 3), registering only a marginal 0.5 per cent dip from Saturday’s Rs 22 crore nett collection. The film grossed an estimated Rs 26.16 crore on Sunday across 9,195 shows. The film’s total India collection stands at an estimated Rs 61.30 crore net and Rs 73.19 crore gross after its first weekend.
Following its release on Friday, the movie minted Rs 16.04 crore and added Rs 20.68 crore on Saturday. The film collected Rs 20.75 crore gross on Day 1 across all languages, comfortably surpassing the Rs 17.50 crore gross opening of Oppenheimer.
Meanwhile, internationally the action-adventure film earned USD 264.1 million globally over the weekend, including USD 139.6 million internationally and USD 124.5 million domestically, as per reports. The collections mark a towering debut for an R-rated film, which is nearly three hours long and not even a part of a major franchise. Besides, it stands third in the list of biggest openings of the year behind- ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ (USD 372.5 million) and ‘Toy Story 5’ (USD 312 million).
Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, ‘The Odyssey’ follows Odysseus as he faces dangerous creatures and difficult challenges during his ten-year journey home after the Trojan War. Along with its action and adventure, the story also focuses on the bond between Odysseus and his wife and his conscience as he witnesses the innocent blood shed during the war.
