Tamil Nadu: Two individuals accused of murdering a 10-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore have been arrested. The accused reportedly abducted and killed her while she had stepped out of the home to purchase grocery.

The accused, identified as Karthik of Nagapattinam, 33, is a resident of Pallapalayam near Sulur. Another accused, Mohan Raj, was arrested for allegedly assisting him.

As per investigation, the victim had gone out to buy grocery near her house in Sulur area on Thursday and did not return home for a long time. The girl missing since Thursday was found dead with injuries near Kannampalaym lake in Sulur area, the police said on Saturday.

Following the incident the relatives and parents of the victim staged a protest outside Sulur police station demanding justice. Interacting with the reporters, a relative Senthil Kumar said, “We don’t know what could have happened; we only received information late yesterday evening. First, they said the girl was missing, but later they said she was found dead on the lake shore. Following that, hundreds of students and the public staged a roadblock protest seeking justice”.

The deceased’s body has been kept at the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital for an autopsy. A further probe into the matter is underway.

Reacting to the incident, Tamil Nadu CM took to social media posting, “The horrific incident that occurred yesterday to a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore causes immense pain and shock. Such inhuman and unforgivable criminal acts can never be tolerated in our society. I share my deepest condolences with the relatives of the family of the little girl who is grieving the loss of their dear child. Two culprits related to this case have been arrested”, according to a statement from the state’s Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

CM Vijay assured the victim’s family that all necessary actions would be taken against those responsible.
