India captain Harmanpreet Kaur put the theorists to rest by declaring that the Women’s T20 World Cup would not be her last world-class event after facing retirement rumors.
As part of ICC Captains’ Day interaction prior to the World Cup, Harmanpreet was asked about her plans in the future and if she plans to retire from the World Cup. The old gunslinger couldn’t quite say no, but she would simply return the question to the journalist, and “Do you think I should stop playing?”
The short exchange was later noticed and Harmanpreet (who was completely confident in the answer) had come across as a determined team leader. The 37-year-old skipper got back on her feet and said it was over retirement when the journalist clarified that he was only asking for information.
The interaction is part of India’s preparations for yet another big ICC campaign under Harmanpreet’s tenure. Yet, not one sign from the veteran player, who has played the most momentous matches for the national side, that she is ready to retire from the game.
Harmanpreet is still an integral part of India’s batting band and management team, who are chasing their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup win. Her reply has also given her fans the comfort they needed, knowing that retirement is not on her mind as she tackles the challenges that lie before her.
