One of the two engines on an Alliance Air plane landing from Delhi lost its thrust on Wednesday evening, forcing the plane to land safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday afternoon.
Flight 9I 698 was an ATR 72 that was en route with approximately 40 passengers aboard when the emergency was declared. An Alliance Air airport official stated that all the necessary measures for an emergency were taken after the engine problem.
Information on the tracking site “Flightradar24” showed that the plane touched down at the Delhi airport around 2:15 pm. The National Transportation Safety Board did not immediately report damage done to people or property aboard the plane.
This incident follows a similar incident which occurred on another Alliance Air flight landing at Bilasa Devi Kevat Airport in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, days ago.
A Delhi-Bilaspur pacer-laden in-flight flight on August 28 suffered a tyre burst, resulting in the deaths of four crew members and leaving 37 passengers dead and injured. Airport Director B Singh added that the left tyre of the aircraft had burst during the touchdown causing a problem on the runway.
No one was injured when the aircraft was evacuated and all passengers and crew were safely removed to the terminal. There were no injuries reported.
The latest one is also on the heels of a number of recent aviation crises. A crew member on an Air India jet, that was flying from Dammam to Delhi, spotted a fragment of tissue paper with the word ‘bomb’ in the lavatory on Monday while it was en route to Ahmedabad airport.
The plane had 32 people on board and all were safely evacuated from Terminal 2. The aircraft was later comprehensively checked by security forces just in case.
Despite recent aviation incidents, authorities remain vigilant and emergency and safety protocols are being triggered whenever there are any technical or security concerns.
