Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni has held a meeting in Tehran with his visiting Pakistani counterpart, Mohsin Naqvi. Momeni reportedly announced an agreement between the two countries to increase the volume of economic exchanges to $10bn and said: “I appreciate the active role of the friendly and brotherly country of Pakistan in mediating the reduction of tension between Iran and the United States.”
He added: “Part of the visit of the Pakistani Minister of Interior is dedicated to bilateral issues, including border security, the fight against drugs and combating terrorism.”
According to reports, US is considering using Iranian assets for Gulf reconstruction. The reports came a day after Mohsen Rezaei, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader revealed that a peace deal hinged on the release of $24bn in frozen Iranian assets.
Elsewhere in Lebanon, Hezbollah claimed attacks on Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese armed group says its fighters attacked an Israeli Merkava tank on the outskirts of the town of Haddatha as well as soldiers near the town of Yohmor al-Shaqif. It also said its fighters targeted a group of Israeli soldiers on the southern outskirts of the town of Haddatha with two Ababil drones and on the outskirts of Yohmor al-Shaqif with rocket salvoes and artillery shells.
The latest attacks came after Hezbollah claimed to have launched at least 25 operations against Israeli troops and sites on Saturday.
In Southern Lebanon. three high-ranking Lebanese army officers are among at least 12 people killed in Israeli attack. As per Lebanon’s army, brigadier general, a captain and a soldier, died in an Israeli strike on a military vehicle on the Khardali-Nabatieh road.
