Kyiv: Atleast 9 died and more than 60 were wounded early on Tuesday authorities said after a barrage of Russian missiles and drones attacked Kyiv, Dnipro and Kharkiv in Ukraine.
Stepping up its attacks, Moscow targeted Ukraine’s power supply and infrastructure while Kyiv amped up its attacks on its opponent in a war now older than4 years.
Five people were killed and 25 injured in a Russian missile and drone attack on the southeastern city of Dnipro, regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha said on messaging app Telegram.
All the injured were in hospital in moderate condition, he added, posting pictures of destroyed residential buildings, burnt-out vehicles and a damaged children’s playground.
In Kyiv, at least four were killed and 51 injured, including children said city Mayor. A missile strike is suspected on a 24-storey apartment building triggering collapse. Another 9 storey apartment block was amongst few to be set ablaze during the attacks. “In the Obolon district, cars are burning after being struck by falling missile debris,” Klitschko- the Mayor said. “There are also fires at two locations in open areas, including one near a kindergarten.”
In Kharkiv, a child was among 10 injured in drone and missile attacks, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said on Telegram.
Thousands were seen flooding into Kyiv Subway seeking shelter on Tuesday according to sources as the sounds of interception filled the air.
Air raid warnings sounded early on Tuesday after president reiterated warnings of possible assault a day before. “Intelligence warnings regarding Russian strikes remain in effect. A massive strike is possible. They have prepared one,” Zelenskiy said in his nightly video address.
Russia warned last week that it intended “systematic strikes” on targets in Kyiv linked to the Ukrainian military as well as decision-making centres, and urged foreigners to leave. It claimed the attacks as a revenge to a drone strike last month on a dormitory in Ukraine’s Russian-held region of Luhansk, which killed 21.
