Noida International Airport begins commercial operations, welcomes inaugural flight from Lucknow

Noida International Airport on Monday welcomed its first commercial flight, marking a significant development for the greenfield airport project in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. An IndiGo flight arriving from Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport became the first commercial aircraft to land at the airport. Flight 6E-2278 touched down in the morning and was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute to commemorate the occasion.

Following its arrival, the same aircraft was scheduled to depart for Bengaluru at 8.35 am, with an expected arrival time of 11.05 am.

In a symbolic move, around 170 farmers from the Jewar region, including 20 women, travelled on the inaugural flight to Lucknow. The passengers were among those who had voluntarily contributed their ancestral land for the development of the airport project.

The group is also expected to meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the visit.

Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu interacted with passengers at the airport and distributed commemorative boarding passes to mark the beginning of commercial services. Speaking on the occasion, Naidu said the vision for Noida International Airport extends beyond transportation. He stated that the government aims to develop the facility into an aerotropolis, encouraging industries to establish operations around the airport and create a strong economic ecosystem with both domestic and international reach.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the airport on March 28. Located in Jewar, Noida International Airport has been developed to help reduce passenger traffic at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport while also strengthening northern India’s aviation and cargo infrastructure.
