The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday closed 16 Metro stations across the national capital citing security reasons as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continued its protest at Jantar Mantar.
The affected stations include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House, ITO and Khan Market, among others.
In a post on X, the DMRC said the stations would remain closed until further instructions due to security concerns. “Due to security reasons, Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh and Shivaji Stadium metro stations have been closed till further instructions,” the DMRC said.
However, the corporation clarified that interchange facilities remain operational at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat stations.
The station closures come as the Cockroach Janta Party continues its protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar following clashes between protesters and police during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march earlier this week.
Thousands of protesters had gathered in central Delhi on Monday demanding action over alleged examination irregularities, leading to heavy security deployment and widespread traffic restrictions.
Several Metro stations were also shut on Monday as authorities tightened security around the Parliament area and key government installations.
