It was supposed to be a celebration of love, laughter and a lavish feast. Instead, a Bihar wedding turned into what looked more like a WWE match after guests allegedly discovered that the promised mutton had mysteriously been replaced by chicken.
The menu switch reportedly left the groom’s side fuming, and within minutes, the wedding venue in Saharsa’s Simri Bakhtiyarpur transformed from a banquet hall into a battleground, with sticks replacing serving spoons and heated arguments replacing wedding songs.
Around a dozen people were injured before police arrived to calm the situation.
The incident took place in Simri Bakhtiyarpur town on Thursday, shortly after the nikah ceremony was completed.
According to officials, the marriage between Mohammad Abdullah alias Chand, son of Mohammad Anwar, and the daughter of Mohammad Javed alias Moto was solemnised peacefully at around 3 pm.
Trouble reportedly started during the wedding feast when members of the groom’s procession (baraat) claimed they had been promised mutton as part of the menu but were instead served chicken.
The alleged change in the menu led to an argument between the two families, which soon escalated into a physical confrontation.
According to relatives of the groom, the groom’s side protested after discovering that chicken had been served in place of mutton. They alleged that members of the bride’s family then assaulted several baraatis, triggering a larger clash.
Videos of the incident have since surfaced on social media, showing groups of people engaged in a violent scuffle. In some clips, individuals can be seen wielding sticks, while others appear to be brandishing swords during the altercation.
Around a dozen people sustained injuries in the clash and were admitted to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Simri Bakhtiyarpur for treatment.
Police later reached the venue and brought the situation under control. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
