Following in the footsteps of the US President, Omar Abdullah, chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has stressed the demand for the restoration of the statehood in the state by posting a satirical tweet with the hashtag #MakeJammuAndKashmiraState.
The NC leader’s X post came after announcing the party’s protest march on the ‘Chalo Delhi’ flag which will start from 20 July. The post was written but in such a Trumpian style, with exaggerated praise and capitalised words, so as to depict the President of the USA praising Abdullah for fighting for statehood ‘like a lion’.
The humorous posting followed days of hard-felt criticism in this regard from Abdullah towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who questioned the delay by the time the matter has come to such a level. Moreover the post certainly smeared humor, but indicated the Chief Minister’s annoyance with the Centre over the matter.
The National Conference has been patient for close to two years with enough time of the Central government had promised to restore statehood, Abdullah said Sunday. If the Centre was to go on halting the process, people “might as well” visit US President Donald Trump or protest outside the White House, he quipped, for all the time they would have to spend.
The Chief Minister said that now the National Conference will initiate ‘Chalo Delhi’ movement that will demand that Jammu and Kashmir be restored to its statehood. It will be the party’s first big act of public dissent since regaining power.
The central government has sounded a similar note many times over the years regarding the return of Kashmir to statehood at “appropriate time. It has, however, not declared any special date for the move, leading to growing criticism from the region’s political leadership.
