A 36-year-old Congress leader was allegedly stabbed to death by a group of unidentified men in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, police said on Tuesday night.
The incident took place near a petrol pump in Shanti Vihar Colony in Transport Nagar, under the Civil Lines police station area. Police said the motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained.
The deceased, Amit Kol was the president of the Congress Scheduled Tribes (ST) Morcha in Rewa district. He was chatting with some friends when bike-borne assailants allegedly surrounded him and stabbed him multiple times, leaving him seriously injured before fleeing the scene. The attackers left behind two motorcycles as they fled. Kohl was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Rewa Superintendent of Police Gurukaran Singh said two motorcycles have been seized from the spot and CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify the attackers.”We have registered a case of murder against unidentified persons. Separate police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused. CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and all possible angles are being investigated,” Singh told reporters.
A forensic team has also been deployed to inspect the scene and collect evidence.
Following the incident, outrage has erupted in the tribal community. Fellow party members have demanded immediate action in the murder.
