Amid rising temperatures and worsening water shortages in Madhya Pradesh, Congress leaders and residents staged a big protest in Indore against how the state government is handling the whole water crisis. The demonstration, led by senior Congress leader Kunal Chaudhary, was held at Palda intersection in Ward No. 75, and it went on for more than two hours before authorities finally intervened.
As per police officials from Bhanwarkua police station, Congress councillors, party workers, and local residents gathered there to protest the acute shortage of drinking water in that area. During the protest, protesters placed empty pots on the road and demanded immediate drinking water supply arrangements. In a dramatic move, some Congress workers reportedly held the feet of police officers, in order to draw attention towards the problem in a strong way.
Police officials said the protesters were repeatedly asked to clear the road because traffic flow was getting disrupted. But, the demonstrators allegedly did not listen to the warnings properly, and later there were clashes between some workers and the police team deployed at the spot.
Afterward, police registered a case against 18 individuals, including Congress leader Kunal Chaudhary, Rakesh Patel, Tara and Kamal, under different sections connected to unlawful protest and blocking public roads without permission.
The protest later ended after discussions took place with the municipal commissioner and senior officials. Congress representatives said the authorities assured them that water tankers would be deployed in the affected area, and that the Narmada pipeline supply would be operated for one hour daily to ease the water shortage.
This incident has now intensified the political debate over water management in Indore, and residents are still dealing with severe water scarcity.
