On Friday, the newly formed Cockroach Janata Party held its first official press conference in Bhopal, officially declaring its presence in political mainstream of Madhya Pradesh on the issues of youth and students.
In the event, the members of the party voiced their opinions on several issues including unemployment, paper leak cases, examination scam, corruption and alleged neglect of youth in the current political system. The organisation is set to establish a statewide structure in the coming years, with district and state executive committees being set up, party representatives said.
The party’s campaign is not against any political party or political figure, said State convener Mayank, but against a system that has “failed millions of students and unemployed youth.” The party says it will embark on a mass movement to promote awareness of problems for the youth and hold officials to account.
Party leaders say the Cockroach Janata Party has already captured a lot of momentum on social media platforms. Mayank said that the organisation has reached almost two crore people online and a big chunk of its supporters is from Madhya Pradesh. He also claimed that the party intends to expand across the country and will have more than 25 crore members in India in the future.
The party leadership also announced plans for massive public outreach campaigns, protests and legal actions. Office-bearers declared that the organisation will press its students, the jobless youth and normal people “from the streets to the courts”.
Observers suggested that the formation of non-conventional political youth organizations was indicative of the public’s discontent with some of the younger generation on issues related to jobs and examinations.
