New Delhi: Waking up to pleasant Saturday morning with minimum temperatures settling below 25 degrees Celsius, Delhi is expected to witness a sharp change in its weather.
According to IMD, the national capital is predicted to record temperature above 40 degree celsius on Saturday. The weather department had earlier forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light rainfall during the night hours.
The latest forecast by the Met dept indicates the temperature will continue to rise over the coming day bringing back hot and dry conditions across the region.
The temperature is likely to rise further to 42 degrees Celsius on May 17, with partly cloudy skies and the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning development. On May 18 and 19, the maximum temperature may touch 43 degrees Celsius and 42 degrees Celsius respectively, while strong surface winds are expected during daytime hours. The mercury is likely to hover around 41 degrees Celsius on May 20 and 21 under mainly clear sky conditions.
Issuing a heat advisory, the Weather Dept has asked residents to avoid prolonged sun exposure specifically during afternoon hours and stay hydrated.
Meanwhile, Delhi on Friday woke up to warm feels with minimum temperatures settling at 26.2 degrees Celsius. that brought temporary relief.
The AQI on the other hand stood at 431, under the hazardous category.
