A 45-year-old woman died on Sunday after a heavy concrete slab-lifting machine being used at an under-construction building fell from the building. The incident took place in the Begumpur area, New Delhi on Sunday morning when she stepped out of her house to buy milk for breakfast, police said.
The victim, Manju, was passing by the site when the machine suddenly collapsed, killing her on the spot, they said.
As per eyewitnesses, the accident could have been thwarted if the construction rules were followed. They alleged that had the building owner implemented basic safety measures, including barricades, warning signs and arrangements to protect pedestrians at the site the incident wouldn’t have occured.
Emergency forces along with the police reached the spot immediately. The body is taken for post-mortem, and an investigation is initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the fatal accident.
