Deputy Chief Minister and Kawardha MLA Vijay Sharma inadvertently halted his vehicle’s convoy after seeing waterlogged and washed out National Highway-30 situation in Kawardha during Lok Ad9o when it was raining hard.
Two days after heavy rains, waterlogging and patchy damage to roads is reportedly causing problems on the Raipur-Jabalpur corridor. The poor condition of the roads is causing problems for road users, and has the potential to cause a rise in accidents.
There were also queues of heavy vehicles which were observed along the highway and these queues caused a hindrance in the movement of traffic in the area. Vijay Sharma spotted the environment while he was on the way and ordered his convoy to halt.
The Deputy Chief Minister got down from his car and personally examined the damaged road. He gave an estimate of the waterlogging problem, the extent of damage of the roads, and the condition of the traffic.
After the visit, Sharma instructed the officials of the concerned departments to make all-out efforts to overcome the issues and make traffic smoothen.
Over the last two days, several areas across the region have received heavy rainfall and this contributes to the challenges motorists face when using the NH-30 routes, which have suffered damage due to the torrential rains.
The collision also drew attention to the issue of safety on the roads during monsoon season, including along vital routes between Raipur and Jabalpur. Police have been instructed to ensure the highway is repaired and traffic redone to avoid accidents and inconvenience to motorists.
