There were three reports of patients with swine flu, including an elderly person in critical condition who is being treated on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), at a government medical college and hospital.
The medical college has set up a dedicated 10-bed barn for the patients suffering from Swine flu in view of the growing infections. Extra beds are also allotted in the intensive care unit (ICU) to treat patients that become ill whether due to complications or other causes.
Doctors were directed to give adequate care to suspected and confirmed cases in advance of the infection as per the preventive measures to be taken, said Atul Deshkar, the superintendent of the Medical College. Swab tests are being taken from patients with cold and cough symptoms and even those who are visibly very weak are being collected for further tests, he added.
A 24-year-old Stationpara resident has been hospitalised in a government medical college and hospital following a positive coronavirus (swine flu) test.
An older man in the city who had suffered from the flu, is still in critical condition. Now the patient is under ventilator treatment in the I.C.U. of the medical college.
On Thursday, yet another infection was confirmed as a 34-year-old man from the Chhuria area has tested positive for COVID-19. He has also been admitted to the government medical college and hospital where he is receiving treatment on the Covid-19 protocol.
The health department has stepped up surveillance in the area after both swine influenza and COVID-19 have been found. Health teams are conducting contact tracing and monitoring of family members and other close contacts of those infected.
Meanwhile, authorities are urging contact tracers to be extra vigilant and promoting awareness campaigns on COVID-19 and swine flu symptoms and prevention.
