In a stinging criticism of the state government, Madhya Pradesh Leader of Opposition, Umang Singhar, took unhealthy potshots at the state government during a press conference here, over nuclear-power plant in Rewa, alleged irregularities in the Ken-Betwa Link project, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks and upcoming elections in Rajya Sabha.

Questions Raised Over Proposed Nuclear Plant

In the face of the proposed construction work for the nuclear plant, Singhar asserted that tribal and Dalit communities of Sirmaur and Mangawan areas of Rewa had been plunged into trouble since he visited the Vindhya region recently.

He claimed gram sabhas had raised objections to the project, but borewells were being allowed to be dug on the basis of a letter by a fake sarpanch.

Singhar has challenged the District’s plan to set up a nuclear plant in the crowded region, arguing that the government has been favoring the rich industrialists over the poor ones. The Congress would seek to approach the court over the issue, he added.

Alleged Irregularities in Ken-Betwa Project

Meanwhile speaking about Ken-Betwa link project in Panna district, Singhar said, compensation had been given to people who didn’t have any relationship with it. He also alleged that the government’s efforts to verify the actual families affected have not been carried out, and that no joint bank accounts have been opened for the affected families.

Responds to Kharge Controversy

He said he hadn’t heard Kharge’s controversial comments and the BJP’s protests and added that context was important in the matter.

He also raised eyebrows on the BJP for protesting against the Congress, taking a swipe at the Congress for being associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The allegations have further fanned the political spats in Madhya Pradesh with the Congress demanding accountability from the Madhya Pradesh government.
