Raipur: In an unfortunate incident at Raipur Railway Station, an accidental firing resulted in the death of an RPSF (Railway Protection Special Force) jawan, identified as Dinesh Chand. The incident occurred during the morning hours on Platform Number 1 as four RPSF personnel, led by Sub-Inspector SD Ghosh, were disembarking from coach number S2 of the Raipur-bound train from Uslapur.
As Dinesh Chand descended from the coach around 6 AM, an accidental discharge from his firearm occurred, with the bullet hitting him in the chest. The unexpected gunfire also led to injuries sustained by a passenger, Mohammad Danish, who was traveling with his father in the berth above. The gunshot alerted both father and son, only for them to discover that Mohammad Danish had also been struck in the abdomen.
Prompt response followed as both the RPSF jawan and Mohammad Danish were swiftly transported to Ramakrishna Care Hospital for immediate medical attention. Tragically, Dinesh Chand succumbed to his injuries at Ramakrishna Care Hospital, while Mohammad Danish continues to receive medical care for the gunshot wound to his abdomen.
The incident has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge of the firearm. Initial reports suggest that the incident might have resulted from mishandling or a lapse in firearm safety protocols. The RPSF authorities have confirmed the incident, and senior officials have arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
The loss of Dinesh Chand has cast a pall over the railway community, and condolences are pouring in for the brave jawan who lost his life in the line of duty. Meanwhile, Mohammad Danish’s recovery is being closely monitored, and the railway authorities are expected to conduct a comprehensive review of safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of stringent safety measures in handling firearms, especially in crowded public spaces like railway stations.
