Salman Khan’s war drama Maatrubhumi, earlier titled Battle of Galwan, has reportedly received a No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. After months of delays and rumours, the film finally looks set to reach theatres.

“The officials of the I&B Ministry are now satisfied with the new version of Maatrubhumi submitted by the makers. Hence, they gave an NOC to the war saga last week. This means that the film can now be made available for public consumption,” the source said.

As quoted by sources the ministry is now satisfied with the new version of the film and cleared it last week. The same source pointed that the film has been heavily reworked from its original cut to meet government directives. The film os based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops, so the portrayal of India-China relations was always going to be sensitive.

Now comes the big question: when does it release? Salman is reportedly eyeing November 13, believing the post-Diwali window suits the film best. That would also keep it from clashing head-on with Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana: Part 1.

Salman plays Colonel Santosh Babu, who was among the 20 Indian soldiers killed in the clash. Apoorva Lakhia directs, and Chitrangda Singh stars opposite him.

The makers haven’t officially confirmed either the NOC or a release date. The date also depends on CBFC clearance and a formal announcement. The film was originally meant for an April release before it was postponed, and the report adds that a clearer picture should emerge within about ten days.

Apart from Maatrubhumi, Salman Khan is set to appear in Vamshi Paidipally’s tentatively titled SVC63. The film also stars Nayanthara.
