Raipur: National Democratic Alliance’s pick, Draupadi Murmu landed at Raipur airport today. She was welcomed by BJP MLAs at the Swami Vivekananda airport and was honoured by the traditional Chattisgarhi Gamcha.
Draupadi Murmu is an politician who has served as ninth Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. She is the first Governor of Jharkhand to complete the five-year term, and the second person (first person from Scheduled Tribe Presidential nominated candidate was Purno Sangma), belonging to a scheduled tribe, to be nominated as a candidate to the post of President of India.
All National Democratic Alliance partners pledged their support. Opposition parties like Biju Janata Dal, YSR Congress Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Janata Dal (Secular), Bahujan Samaj Party, Telugu Desam Party and Shiromani Akali Dal also pledged their support to Murmu.
It is worth noting that Murmu if elected will be the second lady to be elected as the president of India after Pratibha Patil.
