The Chhattisgarh Police have foiled a robbery worth Rs 7.8 lakh at a chartered accountant’s office in Raipur, and arrested a former employee, along with another, in the process. The incident was occurring at C.A Tarwani & Associates in Civil Lines, of Raipur.
Chhattisgarh Police said that on the morning of July 21, when the office driver reported, the cash counter was found broken open and a complainant, cashier Aparna Nayak, was complaining. According to the allegation, the accused attacked the office during the night of the 20th of July, used a cutter to break the cash counter lock and absconded with the cash.
After the complaint, the Civil Lines Police registered cases under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have initiated an investigation.
An Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit – Civil Lines Police joint team visited the crime scene and interviewed people working in the office to examine the CCTV footage.
Police, during the investigation, traced Umesh Porte, who was a previous employee of the firm from Bilaspur, and arrested him.
During questioning, Porte allegedly confessed that he knew cash was regularly kept inside the office because of his previous employment. With his associate Laxminarayan Dhruv, he hatched and carried out the heist.
The police recovered the entire stolen amount of Rs 7.8 lakh by arresting the accused and recovered them.
An inquiry is ongoing to see if the accused had any other similar theft case(s) on their record.
