Jharkhand: The Jharkhand police, who came to take BJP candidate Brahmanand Netam into custody as soon as the voting for the Bhanupratappur assembly by-election was over, faced heavy opposition. For about an hour, about a thousand workers created a ruckus by stopping the police vehicle. Ultimately Jharkhand Police had to return empty-handed.
Police were taking Brahmanand Netam to Kanker’s Kotwali city. Brahmanand Netam had gone to the fort polling booth to cast his vote. From there, he was to be taken into custody. However, Netam has said that he cannot be arrested as the high court order has come for his stay.
Meanwhile, a man threw slippers at Brahmanand Netam’s car. After which the BJP workers beat him heavily. According to BJP leader Shivratan Sharma, the police coming to take Brahmanand into custody was part of the Congress’s conspiracy. So that they can create disturbances in the polling booths.
Amidst the anger of the crowd toward the young man, the police took him out safely. According to the activists, he was trying to hit Brahmanand Netam by throwing slippers. Former minister and election in-charge Brijmohan Agrawal took Brahmanand Netam along with him in his car amidst a huge crowd. During this, Brahmanand was seen thanking the public. The leader also showed the victory sign claiming his victory.
A large number of people were present along with BJP workers. Seeing the crowd getting furious, the leaders pacified the workers. Gradually the crowd reduced from there after Brijmohan Agarwal left with Brahmanand Netam. Notably, BJP candidate Netam is a rape accused of a minor girl for which the CG police have filed a chargesheet against him.
