The death by suicide of a Central Armed Force (CAF) jawan at a camp in Chhattisgarh’s Kondagaon district has raised questions about the safety of the military outpost, according to news reports. The CAF camp was set up in Urandabeda police station area in Farasgaon.
The man who died is identified as Jogendra Netam who was assigned to the camp on regular security duties. Preliminary information indicates that the jawan shot himself in service with a rifle.
After the incident, police officers and fellow security personnel hurried on to the scene and took the injured jawan at once to a nearby hospital. They say he died when they brought him to the hospital, however.
The incident was reported to senior officials and after that the officers of Skt Kondagaon visited mortuary and met the death jawan family members. Police says it has kicked off investigation of the circumstances that could have contributed to the tragedy.
For the time being, initial investigation into the jawan’s death indicates he was facing a personal crisis, but the ‘final circumstances of the alleged suicide’ are still not clear at this stage.
The SP has directed the Urandabeda police station in-charge to conduct a thorough investigation from all possible angles. Police are looking at the jawan’s recent behaviour, background and records of service to uncover if there are other factors which came into play in the incident.
The detailed report of investigation is expected soon after the investigation has begun, and the security force and local administration are doing their part to support the bereaved family.
