A Bangladeshi national lost his life in a shooting accident in the Longla BOP in Unakoti district in Tripura and was reportedly shot by the Border Security Force (BSF). Police officials on the spot said that one Bangladeshi national died after being shot by the Border Security Force (BSF) in a firing accident at Latiapura Border Outpost in Tripura’s Unakoti district.

The incident is said to have happened Friday evening in a patrol patrol on the India-Bangladesh border. Police officers observed people on the other side of the border trying to pick up bags and people on the U.S. side trying to carry them across the border fence, authorities said.

The officials said that one BSF constable intervened after noticing the activity. Other security staff arrived at the site after the incident.

Police said that shots were fired during the operation. Most people are reportedly escaping from the area, one Bangladesh national was injured, and later died. He was then rushed to a district hospital for autopsy.

The incident has highlighted some of the persistent issues plaguing the India-Bangladesh border, where security forces frequently crack down on cross-border smuggling and other illegal activities.

Investigations are currently underway to determine the sequence of events and circumstances in connection with this incident, officials said. Authorities have yet to officially release any other details on the deceased.

Tripura has an immense international border with Bangladesh boundary, large part of which is barricaded along with this the security agencies are deploying guards for the boundary. Border officials have maintained their vigilance in the critical zones to ward off crossings by unauthorized locals or foreigners.

The latest incident comes on the heels of multiple previous skirmishes in the border area during the past few years, which have underscored the security threats on the region.
