With the league phase of IPL 2026 now coming closer to a climax, it has turned out to be a very exhilarating one indeed. In a pivotal Friday Night showdown, the entire hierarchy at the top of the points table got flipped upside down, setting the stage for a dramatic playoff battle.A resounding performance from the Sunrisers Hyderabad team saw them claim a whopping 55-run win against the table-leading Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Playing their part at home with the bat in their hands first, it was no less than an assault that the Sunrisers launched to reach and then break through the 250-run barrier in 20 overs with a total of 255/4.

Playoff Situation and Points Table Standing

Despite such a massive defeat, RCB managed to retain their place as the best-ranked team of the ongoing IPL tournament. The Bangalore batters did their best to take their total near 200/4 runs, keeping the damage done to their NRR minimal.

The NRR Equation: With their victory, Hyderabad took their tally to a total of 18 points, equal to Bangalore and Gujarat. But since the NRR of RCB was better than that of Gujarat Titans (+0.783 compared to +0.695) and also Hyderabad (+0.524), they managed to take the lead spot in the league.

After sealing the spots in the top two places in the standings, all is set up for a fantastic Qualifier-1 match-up.

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans will face each other on Tuesday, 26th May 2026. In a historic first in the event, the all-important clash will be played at the beautiful HPCA Stadium located in Dharamshala. Nestled at an elevation of 1,457 meters, in the backdrop of the famous snow-clad Dhauladhar mountains, the stadium will play host to its very first IPL qualifier match.
