The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday, revised its T20I playing conditions that will come into effect with the upcoming one-off match between West Indies and Ireland at the Sabina Park.
As per the conditions, an in-match penalty for slow over rates in men’s and women’s Twenty20 Internationals along with an optional drinks interval midway through the innings in bilateral T20 international cricket comes into force this month. In addition to the slow over-rate outlined fall the in-match penalties in Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The optional drinks break for two minutes thirty seconds would be at the mid-point of each innings based on the pre-series discussions held by the members.
This change was recommended by the ICC Cricket Committee after it observed reports on the effectiveness of a similar regulation that was included in the playing conditions for the Hundred competition conducted by the ECB.
These terms would first be implemented at the Sabina Park in Jamaica on January 16 in a match between West Indies and Ireland. The first T20I of the three-match series between South Africa and the West Indies in Centurion on 18 January will be the first women’s match played under the new playing conditions.
