Sonam Wangchuk writes to Safdarjung Hospital, seeks permission to attend CJP’s Parliament march

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on Monday wrote to Safdarjung Hospital authority to allow him to join the Cockroach Janata Party’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, saying he feels fine and his health parameters are normal. In a handwritten letter addressed to the Director and Medical Superintendent of the hospital, he said his health parameters were normal and appealed for permission to join the protest.

In the letter, Wangchuk said he was in good health and asked hospital authorities to allow him to leave for the march. “This is to state that I am feeling very fine today and my health parameters are also showing as quite normal. Hence, I request you to kindly allow me to leave the hospital, even if temporarily, so that I can join the March to the Parliament, Sansad Chalo this morning,” he wrote.

The request comes amid a continuing dispute over Wangchuk’s stay at the government-run hospital, where he has been under medical observation following his prolonged hunger strike.

Earlier on Monday, Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo, approached the Delhi High Court challenging an order that declined to intervene in his treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.

In her appeal, Angmo argued that the order effectively keeps Wangchuk confined to the hospital without any formal arrest while depriving him and his family of the authority to make decisions regarding his medical treatment.

The Delhi High Court agreed to hear the matter and is scheduled to take up the plea later in the day.
