Twenty-Three political parties are scheduled to meet at Delhi’s Constitution Club on Monday. According to announcement made by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on his social media handle- 23 political parties agreed to participate in the Opposition bloc India meeting.

He said though some parties have also told them they would not be able to come due to their own reasons, they strongly oppose policies of the Modi government’s “policies and actions”.

He alleged actions and policies by the Modi govt were “stripping millions of Indians of their right to vote, constantly attacking the Constitution, and targeting Opposition leaders using investigative agencies.” Besides these the long list of grievance included: damaging livelihoods, disrupting household budgets through persistent inflation, betraying the hopes and aspirations of millions of youths, undermining investment climate, and compromising national interests through their foreign policy.”

Tamil Nadus DMK led by MK Stalin a close aide of Congress and AAP will not participate in the event. Angry DMK quite Congress after they snap ties and joined Vijay’s TVK. The once-distant Trinamool Congress (TMC) is looking to play a more proactive role, having lost power in West Bengal and facing the threat of an organizational collapse.

Leaders in the bloc said Monday’s meeting was likely to see some fireworks as discontent among some of the members has been simmering. The CPI(M) and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) have conveyed their displeasure to the Congress leadership about its style of functioning. While the JMM is upset with the Congress for “unilaterally” announcing a candidate for one of the two Rajya Sabha seats bound for elections from Jharkhand this month, the CPI(M) has conveyed its strong displeasure over attacks on former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan by Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, during the recent Kerala Assembly election campaign.

It will be under entirely different circumstances compared to the alliance’s last meeting on April 15 the members will convene.
