A student of the Delhi University’s Satya Niketan narrowly escaped after a collapse of a PG building trapped him and his friend for over an hour in a city on Sunday afternoon.

Nitesh Chib is a second-year B.Com student at Delhi University, had just finished lunch in his room at the HostelDaze PG when the building suddenly came crashing down. Chib and his friend soon came to be surrounded by debris.

The two stayed trapped for about an hour and 15 minutes under the rubble before being rescued, Chib recalled the horrifically frightened experience. Things got worse when they began to be injured and could not get out on their own.

Chib’s friend was able to locate and send SOS message via WhatsApp service to friends during the time the two were trapped. The messages were used to warn other people and in turn they advised the rescue teams where to find them.

The two students were finally rescued after a long effort, lying under the debris. It is said that they became numb, injured and bled when they were taken in.

He is seen as a reminder of the safety issues and structural problem with students’ accommodation buildings in Delhi once again. Students and young professionals consider Satya Niketan a well-liked house areas because of its proximity to several Educational institutions.

Their survival was nearly at stake as the rescue team’s efforts and timely communication with Chib and his companion came to their rescue from an already horrendous ordeal on the Sunday afternoon.
