Bhopal: At a press meeting today, MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra warned the food delivery company Zomato against violating traffic norms and endangering the lives of people in a bid to fulfil its ‘delivery in 10 minutes promise’. Zomato on 22nd March, introduced Zomato Instant, a service where the food delivery platform aims to deliver food items in 10 minutes at selective locations within 1-3km of its stations.

“How is it possible that a delivery boy can cover 4 kilometres in 10 minutes? It’s possible when one drives like wind. And this will endanger lives of people on the streets”, said the home minister, Mishra said.” He further warned the company of stringent charges if any untoward incident takes place while their agent delivers the service.

Social media was taken by a storm after the announcement. Massive criticism poured in citing the safety of the delivery agent and the public on the road. Responding to the critics, founder Deepinder Goyal took to Twitter and said that the service will be specific nearby locations, popular and standardized items only.” He further said that the delivery partners will not be informed about promised delivery time for both 10 and 30 minutes deliveries.

The delivery service introduced by Zomato is limited to the service of selective items like Coffee, Biryani, Momos, Bread Omelette etc.
