On Wednesday, Sonia Gandhi had a routine check-up at Medanta Hospital; the actress had earlier been admitted to the hospital with a systemic infection weeks ago earlier this year.
The officials say that the senior Congress leader had reached the hospital in Gurugram for his agendum follow-up check-ups and was probably to be discharged after the consultation. At reporting time there was no official medical bulletin issued by the hospital.
Earlier, Sonia Gandhi had been admitted in Sir Ganga Ram (S. G. Ramamoorthy) Hospital on March 24 following a fever which was related to a systemic infection. She was medically attended for almost a week after which she recovered and was discharged. Rahul Gandhi was also the hospitalisation had forced him to cancel a visit to Kerala at that time.
A systemic infection is described as an infection of the bloodstream spreading to the body rather than just inhabiting one area where they are causing cellular damage. Close monitoring and prompt treatment is usually necessary for these infections, and often this is particularly true for older adults.
The senior Congress leader has not been medically administered for that length of time in recent years. She was admitted in June of last year for stomach troubles, and has been observed at the hospital’s gastroenterology department.
Party chiefs have put a cheerful face on Sonia Gandhi’s current hospital trip and said that it was a routine, precautionary visit.
