Reports have been making rounds that Saudi Arabia has covertly launched attacks on Tehran during the recent conflicts in response to the drones and missiles that targeted the kingdom. Local news agencies reported the attacks citing information by Western and Iranian officials,

It is worth noting that it is the first time that the kingdom is known to have directly carried out military action on Iranian soil and show it is becoming much bolder in defending itself against its main regional rival.

Reports state, the Iranian and Western officials said Riyadh made Tehran aware of the strikes and this was followed by intensive diplomatic engagement and Saudi threats to retaliate further, which led to an understanding between the two countries to de-escalate. One of the Iranian officials confirmed that the two countries had agreed to de-escalate, moving to ceasefire on April 17, way before Trump and Tehran declared the temporary halt.

It also mentioned that the projectiles fired at Saudi Arabia in the days leading up to the wider ceasefire were assessed by Western sources to have originated in Iraq and not Iran, thus indicating Tehran curtailed direct strikes while allied groups continued to operate.

The Saudi strikes underscore the widening of the conflict — and the extent to which a war that began when the U.S. and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran on February 28 has drawn in the broader Middle East in ways that have not been publicly acknowledged. Since the US Israeli strikes- Tehran has been reportedly bombing gulf countries showing support to the US.
