A soldier in the Territorial Army (TA) was kidnapped by alleged terrorists in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, and the security forces soon launched search operations. The act was reported to have occurred on Tuesday in Kokernag’s Shangus district when two TA soldiers were allegedly abducted. However, one of the soldiers came back with his life intact; the other soldier’s whereabouts are still unknown. In light of this development, the operations that are being carried out in the valley have been intensified in a joint search operation launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police to find the abducted soldier alive.
As quoted by a news agency, sources have said the following: “Two Territorial Army jawans were kidnapped by terrorists in the forest region of Anantnag.” One has come back, and the other is missing, and there is a manhunt going on for him.” To this day, neither the Indian Army, nor the main body of Gaurav’s abductors has made an official statement about it.
This is not the first of its kind, as the region has a series of similar acts. An army soldier, resident of Kulgam district, had gone missing in August 2023 from his house when he was on leave. The soldier, Wani, was in his late 20s and went missing after he left his home in his car with plans to go to a local market to buy foodstuff. His vehicle was later discovered abandoned and splattered with blood. Luckily, the police managed to look for Wani for a long and arrest him. Earlier this year, in March, a soldier named Yasin Bhat was also attacked by terrorists who tried to kidnap him at his home in Qazipora, Budgam. Once in a fight, Bhat escaped from the scene and was not arrested.
In the past eight years, more than five soldiers have been abducted and killed in different places of Kashmir, especially in Shopian and Kulgam in South Kashmir. Such incidences remain a major security risk to the officers in the region with hopes for soldiers on leave or those being posted to sensitive regions.
