Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi is set to embark on a Bharat Nyaya Yatra, emphasizing justice, spanning from conflict-ridden Manipur to Mumbai, commencing on January 14. This journey will cover 6200 km over three months, primarily by bus, traversing 14 states in the lead-up to the anticipated national polls in the summer of 2024.
The announcement was made by Congress leader KC Venugopal, following Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to comply with the Congress Working Committee’s (CWC) request for another yatra on December 21.
Having successfully completed Bharat Jodo Yatra last year, covering 4500 km over 150 days from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, Gandhi’s upcoming Bharat Nyaya Yatra aims to rally support and enthusiasm from youth, women, and marginalized communities. The yatra is scheduled to conclude on March 20.
The Congress chief, Mallikarjun Kharge, will inaugurate the yatra in Imphal on January 14, with a focus on economic, social, and political justice. The route will encompass Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. KC Venugopal highlighted that the yatra will span 14 states and 85 districts.
Addressing concerns about the impact of the yatra on election preparations, Venugopal assured a separate mechanism for election-related activities. Emphasizing the non-political nature of the yatra, he underscored the intention to amplify the voices of common people.
Manipur, particularly affected by ethnic violence since May, will be a pivotal part of the yatra. The Congress aims not only to raise pertinent issues but also to contribute towards healing the wounds of the state, where ethnic clashes have claimed over 175 lives and displaced thousands.
The Bharat Nyaya Yatra is anticipated to invigorate grassroots Congress workers, fostering a connection with the electorate in preparation for the forthcoming national elections while concurrently addressing the concerns of the common populace.
