New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation and shared his message on Ashadha Purnima-Dhamma Chakra Day at 8:30 am today. PM Modi said that the ideas of Lord Buddha are more relevant now as humanity faces COVID-19 crises. He asserted that India has shown how to face even the most difficult challenges by following the path shown by the founder of Buddhism.
“The entire world is moving in solidarity following the teachings of the Buddha. In this, the ‘care with prayer’ initiative of the International Buddhist Confederation is praiseworthy,” PM Modi said in a televised address on Saturday morning.
Citing the teachings of Buddha, PM Modi emphasized harmony between mind, and speech to guide us away from pain and towards happiness.
Ashadha Purnima-Dhamma Chakra Day is observed on the full moon day in Ashada month of the Hindu calendar. The Damma Chakra day is celebrated globally to commemorate the first sermon that Gautam Bhuddha gave to his five ascetic disciples. This day is also observed as Guru Purnima, a day to mark reverence to Gurus. This year the festival coincides with the lunar eclipse as well.
