Goa: Police have arrested a mentally unstable man in Goa for allegedly stabbing his 85-year-old mother over a petty fight. Margao Police said Rosario D’Costa, who is believed to be ill, stabbed his mother Rosy D’Costa. The incident took place on Tuesday at their home in South Goa’s Navelim village. The woman received injuries on her hand in the attack and was admitted to the Goa Government Medical College and Hospital, an official from Margao police station said.
The 49-year-old accused was arrested on the same day and have recovered the knife used in the attack. A case has been registered against him under Indian Penal Code Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), the official said. The accused was later produced before a magistrate who referred him to the state-run Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour, the police said.
Police said Rosy’s two other children are working abroad. The police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the shocking incident. The accused was also taken to Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim for medical examination. PSI Varshada is investigating the case.
