The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check on a wave of disinformation has issued a series of clarifications amid stiffened tensions between India and Pakistan. These false dialogues, from fabricated military advancements to fake reporting of chaos, are being aggressively posted by accounts determined to create panic and confusion. There have also been various reports that IAF Officer Shivangi Singh has been captured
Among one of the most notorious rumours denied by PIB is a viral piece of information that an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, Squadron Leader Shivangi Singh, has been captured by Pakistan. PIB Fact Check labelled this uproar as an utter lie, saying, “Pro-Pakistan social media accounts are falsely claiming that Squadron Leader Shivangi Singh, an Indian Air Force pilot, has been captured in Pakistan. This claim is completely FAKE.”
In a second misinformation incident, PIB led a charge to refute reports that Indian soldiers are crying and abandoning their positions during increasing hostilities. The agency explained that such claims are entirely baseless, and their objective is to demoralise the Indian armed forces.
More so, a false report that had emerged that there were approximately 10 explosions that had occurred close to the Srinagar airport in Jammu and Kashmir was also repudiated. “AJEnglish has claimed that there have been about 10 explosions around Srinagar airport in J&K. PIB FactCheck—This claim is Fake,” reported the bureau, calling on citizens to trust official sources only for credible information.
It was also denied that there were explosions at Jaipur Airport. PIB referred to a clarification from the District Collector and Magistrate of Jaipur to inform that the airport is completely safe and fully functional.
In addition, a widely circulated video with a story of the destruction of an Indian military post was recognised as a piece of old footage from 2020 unrelated to current events or Operation Sindoor.
Finally, the bureau tried to curb deceptive claims regarding the Delhi-Mumbai airline route.
