New Delhi: Fresh stone pelting was reported from Jahangirpuri as the officials probed looking for a missing suspect. The police called it a “minor, one-off incident” and said one person had been detained.
The pelting was reported as officials interogated Sonu Chikna’s family- a suspect in the case. When a police team arrived at Sonu Chikna’s home in Jahangirpuri, his family and neighbours threw stones at the team, sources said. As the violence threatened to escalate, personnel of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) formed a human wall to prevent any clashes.
Around 23 arrested so far over the violence in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri that took place on Saturday evening on the ocassion of Hanuman Jayanti. Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana at a press conference said- 23 people have been arrested. They are from both communities. Eight have a previous criminal record. Action will be taken against any person found guilty irrespective of their class, creed, community and religion.
So far three country-made pistols and five swords have been seized from the arrested men. One amongst the nabbed is identified as Aslam, who, the police say, shot at Delhi Police sub-inspector Medalal Meena.
