INDIA: The number of cases have already crossed the three-lakh mark making India the fourth worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic.
Amid the gloomy clouds of coronavirus, there comes a ray of hope with the recovery rate improving and now crossing 50 percent with 1,62,378 patients cured so far.
Only 21.23 per cent people have been seen recovering from the disease in the worst-affected city of New York in the badly hit United States. In New Jersey, this percentage is 18.88.
On Sunday, 2,224 cases were recorded in Delhi, making it the third consecutive day with more than 2,000 new infections.Even after seeing a wave of Covid-19 cases in both Delhi and Mumbai, India’s capital- Delhi has seen a recovery rate of 38.36 per cent and Mumbai, 45.65 per cent. The health ministry said that the healthy recovery rate was a result of “timely case identification” and “proper clinical management”.
In India, the recovery rate has been steadily increasing. On April 15, the rate of recovery was 11.42 per cent. On the 19th of May, the recovery rate stood at 38.73 per cent and just two days later- the country for the first time, crossed the recovery rate’s milestone with 40.32 percent people. On the 31st of May, it was 47.76 per cent and on the 2nd of June, it improved to 48.19 per cent people recovering from the disease and since then, it has only been improving.
The health ministry said that Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) testing capacity for detecting Covid-19 cases is being ramped up continuously. In total, 893 laboratories – 646 government and 247 private – tested 56,58,614 swab samples till 9 am on Sunday (June 14) with 1,51,432 of them in the last 24 hours, the ministry said.
India is faring much better than other worst-hit countries in terms of cases per million of population. It has recorded 234 cases per million of its population and is also placed much better in terms of numbers of deaths per million of population, which is 7 per million of India’s population currently.
The spread of the disease in other countries has been far greater and a higher number of deaths are also seen in ratio to their population. The US, out of a million of their population, has seen 6,477 cases and 355 deaths. Brazil, out of a million of their population, has seen 4,004 cases and 201 deaths. Russia, out of a million of their population, has seen 3,625 cases and 48 deaths and the UK, out of a million of their population, has seen 4,337 cases 614 deaths.
