New Delhi: Prices for commercial LPG cylinders have been increased by ₹42 for every 19 kg cylinder, effective from Monday, June 1, 2026. In the words of a source from the industry quoted by news agency PTI, the increase in price means that the price of a cylinder in commercial use in Delhi will now be ₹3,113.50, against its earlier price of ₹3,071.50. While businesses find their costs being increasingly burdened, housewives and other homemakers can rest easy.
The state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) kept prices of domestic cylinders untouched in their entirety. The price of the commonly used domestic cylinder weighing 14.2 kg still stands at ₹913 in the nation’s capital.
Reasons for Increased Fuel Prices:
There are a number of reasons behind this increase in fuel prices, including global and domestic considerations. These include:
- Geopolitical Tension: The geopolitical tension in West Asia has directly affected the global energy industry. Shipping disruptions and blockades along vital sea routes, such as the strait of hormuz, have fueled fears of an impending shortage in the energy markets.
- Oil Imports: As a developing country, more than 85% of India’s crude oil is imported, alongside a considerable percentage of LPG. Whenever the costs of importing oil into the nation increase because of international tensions, prices will increase domestically as a result of the rising market baseline.Importing oil is not cheap, and this will translate into high costs of operation within the country.
- Domestic Demand: Alongside the geopolitical tension affecting the importation of oil, OMCs are also witnessing a steep increase in internal demands. The combination of commercial and seasonal demands for agricultural products has made inventory management difficult, hence the need for companies to maintain a stock reserve of 30 days in case of an emergency. Due to the steep rise in prices of commercial gas in the recent months, hotel and restaurant industries are facing tough times.
