India recorded 2,55,874 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported.


The recovery rate at 93.15 per cent accounted for 2,55,874 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to3,70,71,898. The daily positivity rate stood at 15.52 per cent.


The active caseload stands at 22,36,842 accounting for 5.62 per cent of the total number of cases. 12,493 active cases were reported in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.23 per cent reported 614 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,90,462.

Finally breaking a five-day streak of reporting over three lakh daily COVID cases, the new tally has taken Indian total infection tally to become the worst-hit nation after the US to almost 3.98 crores. The vaccination coverage for COVID has now crossed 162.92 crore dose. However, vaccines still remain unavailable to children under the age of 15 years, and this age group is barred from attending tomorrow’s Republic Day Parade.
