According to reports, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has withheld the clearance certificate for Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi, until further notice.
Previously, the movie was scheduled to hit screens on April 17 ahead of Eid. However, that release date was postponed and it was expected to release in August.
Shortly after the teaser was circulated online, several users on the Chinese social media platform Weibo accused the movie of misrepresenting the events surrounding the Galwan Valley clash. The teaser for Maatrubhumi was unveiled on December 27, 2025, coinciding with Salman Khan’s 60th birthday.
In the film, Salman Khan portrays Colonel Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment, who led Indian troops during the confrontation while enforcing a disengagement agreement at the border. Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia will also feature in key roles in Maatrubhumi, which has music by Himesh Reshammiya.
Maatrubhumi is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under the Salman Khan Films banner. It also stars Chitrangda Singh. Bhaijaan was last seen in AR Murugadoss’s Sikandar, which had Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead.
Earlier this year, in January, India’s Ministry of External Affairs clarified that decisions concerning the production of Salman Khan’s films fall under the jurisdiction of the appropriate domestic authorities. The ministry added that it is not involved in such projects or other similar filmmaking matters.
The issue first came into focus earlier this year when External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal was asked about reports suggesting the ministry had objected to a film based on the Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese forces. Responding to the speculation, Jaiswal clarified that the Ministry of External Affairs does not oversee film-related matters, stating that such decisions are handled by the appropriate authorities in India and that the MEA has no involvement in projects of this nature
