Looks like storytelling of old times is back. The trailer release of ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ revives the storytelling loved most by the Bollywood.

The glimpse into the film suggests a contemporary setting with a warm, witty exchange between an ailing grandfather (Naseeruddin Shah) and his grandson (Diljit Dosanjh). Debutant Vedang Raina, portraying the younger version of Shah’s character, has already garnered immense praise from early reactions, with critics noting he “steals the show” with an emotionally charged performance.

Paired alongside Sharvari the movie touches on the many shades of love, the joy of it, the heartbreak that follows, the memories that remain, and the ache of separation that never quite goes away. The duos vibrant chemistry captures the pre-partition essence of love.

Set against the turbulent times of partition- the movie features Naseeruddin Shah portraying a haunted man who never found love. Diljit Dosanjh’s character appears to be on a path shaped by the ghosts of the past, while Vedang Raina and Sharvari add a young and vibrant love story that runs parallel to the older narrative.

The soul-stirring soundtrack, handwritten letters and train journey with poetic dialogues takes you back to the historic pre-Independence Day. The film also appears to touch on larger themes of identity, where one belongs, and the bonds that survive the test of time.

“Main Vaapas Aaunga is a personal story of love and longing which remained in someone’s heart for 78 years after the partition,” director Imtiaz Ali stated in a press release. “It looks back from a contemporary point of view at the heartbeats of a dynamic generation.”

The film also marks the reunion of the iconic musical trio of Ali, composer A.R. Rahman, and lyricist Irshad Kamil. Produced by Birla Studios, Applause Entertainment, and Window Seat Films, Main Vaapas Aaunga is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on June 12, 2026
